Sun Can Prevent Childhood Asthma
Vitamin D, which comes from the sun, plays a big role in blocking early asthma. Recent research has told scientists that children living in colder or wetter areas are in more risk of ailing from this problem. There must be a balance of staying in the sun, as the even staying in the sun is a hazard to cancer. This theory also explains the conditions of asthma in Spain, but that doesn't mean the study is over, instead it means a whole lot more research on the matter. In the North, however, it is advised to stay about 20-30 minutes in the sun each day (although not during the high risk period of noon to 4pm).) For now, no similar recommendation is given to Spain or other high-risk countries. It is, on the other hand, understood that there is a problem in other countries with latitudes that are higher than 40º north, where it is not possible to consume enough vitamin D during the winter months. "People in these countries should take supplements to ensure they are not at risk," states Alberto Arnedo-Pena firmly, an epidemiologist at the Public Health Centre in Castellón.
