Soaring Straws

A test was performed to see the potential energy of a straw rocket when released by a rubber band. Based on the "Soaring Straws" Lab, it is certain that Gravitational Potential Energy and Elastic Potential Energy (which is the stretch of the rubber band) have a relationship. To figure out this relationship, a graph was created. According to the graph, the amount of EPE the "rocket" has, the more GPE it will obtain. When the rocket is released, it has kinetic energy. At this time, there is no EPE and the GPE is the amount of pull gravity has on the object.
This project might have been more accurate if the celings were higher, as the straw kept hitting it. Another suggestion would be to tape the meter sticks on the wall, because when we held the sticks, they kept shaking and the rocket kept hitting the persons hand. If these errors are corrcted, this may be a really good lab experience.
