Toothpick-Fish Lab




     It is good to know how animals adapt and survive harsh times, and that is exactly what we learnt in class. In the beginning, there were 3 types of "fish" (toothpicks) in the pond: Red, Green, and Yellow. Green was dominant, which means if it has one of its' allele, then the fish will be green. Red and yellow are recessive, but are incompletely dominant to eachother, which means if mixed together, they will form a new color of fish, orange. Green was found most in the pond as it always dominated over the red, and yellow, it could also camouflage well. As for the red and yellow, the red could survive pretty well on its' on, as for the yellow, it could not hide itself very good, so, it ended up dying.
  This is a chart for the 4 generations of fish:

    When all was going well for the green fish, people started to ruin the pond, and the environment changed. The algae and seaweed changed colors and now the red and yellow fish were safe in camouflage, while the green fish were exposed. This made the green fish die out sooner and now the yellow and red were found most in the pond.
