As the Stomach Churns

Day 1:

In science, our class conducted a lab in groups. We were seeing different reactions on egg whites with different substances in test tubes, just as our stomachs would with our food. There were four test tubes which we filled differently. Test tube "A" was filled with just eggs and pepsin and had no immediate reaction. Then, tube "B" was filled with eggs, pepsin, and water, other than the water turning a little unclear, there was no immediate reaction. Test tube "C" contained the eggs mixed in hydrochloric acid and it was discovered to have no immediate reaction. The last test tube that we experimented with, tube "D", which comprises of egg whites, pepsin and hydrochloric acid had the most reaction of all four. As soon as all three elements combined, the eggs started to break up and the solution became very bubbly. After this, we were to conduct another experiment on blue litmus paper that reacts to acid by turning pink. It was immediately predicted that the test tubes that held the hydrochloric acid would turn the litmus paper pink. Unmoved, we learned that all of the test tubes gave the reaction that we wanted. Test tubes "A" and "B" had no real reaction and "C" and "D" both got the paper a pinkish orange color. This concludes our day one of experimenting.

Day 2:

Continuing the experiment, we once again got to see our old test tubes and see the changes which may have occurred since yesterday's lab. Today’s egg white appearance results were: "A" no reaction, "B" no reaction, "C" mushed together, and "D" disintegrated. For the Litmus Color test, it was "A" no reaction, "B" wet paper, "C" turns paper pink, and "D", surprisingly just wetted the paper and had no reaction like the day before. I was surprised as well as shocked to discover that the most reactive substance had failed on day two. Well, sometimes, something’s don't go as planned or apprehended.
